Money and finances can become a constant source of stress in your life and lead to anxiety and other emotional distress.

People also feel stressed about money, even when they don’t have access to their online bank account, or a payment or transfer they made has failed.

That’s what happened when banks in the country faced online system outages or service disruptions on Monday morning (September 12).

Sin Chew reported that several domestic banks, including RHB, Maybank, Public Bank, CIMB and United Overseas Bank (UOB), experienced disruptions in their online banking services.

Customers complained that they could not make online transfers from third parties.

At the time of writing, the customer service of Hong Leong Bank (Hong Leong) advised that the transfer to another Hong Leong account is going smoothly.

However, the transfer to the above banks had problems.

Sin Chew said his reporter tried to do DuitNow online transactions through RHB Bank but was unsuccessful.

The site also notified that the account to be transferred was rejected.

However, the money was debited despite the transaction being unsuccessful.

Widespread problem

Sin Chew then called the bank to find out, and the bank staff confirmed the matter.

Customers were told to wait 24 hours or check with the account receiving the transfer to see if they received the transfer.

The bank staff added that the online money transfer service started experiencing problems this morning.

In addition, when the reporter called Maybank’s hotline, they were told that the bank was facing network service interference.

Customers were temporarily unable to make online transfers and at the same time the bank received many telephone enquiries.

Public Bank’s customer service staff said they also experienced the same problems.

Meanwhile, the customer service staff of Hong Leong Bank told them there is no problem with their bank’s online internal transfer.

However, they have received customer feedback that money transfers to RHB Bank, CIMB, UOB and Maybank are all experiencing problems.

Furthermore, transfers via services such as FPX and Jom Pay could not be done.

Everyone Keep Calm

By midday, the affected services had not resumed, but some banks managed to respond to the situation later in the afternoon.

Some users have tried performing online transfers using the web browser instead of the mobile app, with mixed results.

With the recent large-scale bank fraud and online fraud, bank customers had good reason to panic.
